Welcome to Crossword Ends in Violence (5)

Crossword Ends in Violence (5)

A quintessentially British comedy thriller about a professional crossword setter who discovers some worrying things about his grandfather.

It’s also about D-Day, security leaks, codewords, Bletchley Park and chess. Like Robert Harris. But with jokes.

Now available on Amazon.com

Or purchase via Lulu.com here.

Crossword Ends in Violence (5) has been written by award-winning James Cary, writer of BBC Radio 4’s Hut 33, Think the Unthinkable and co-writer of Another Case of Milton Jones and Miranda Hart’s Joke Shop (Radio 2). He’s also written episodes of My Family, My Hero and Shaun the Sheep.

So why isn’t it available in the shops?

Who knows? It has been read with great interest by all the main fiction publishers and deemed somewhat ‘hard to place’. It seems that historical fiction isn’t, and should never be, funny. But this is both historical and funny. Although, only half of the book is set in the past. It’s part comedy, part thriller with some spying, hacking and fighting thrown in. Clearly you, the potential reader, would be confused by such a novel and therefore unable to chose it and read it.

Except now you can.

For a limited time, you can download the book for free. That’s right. The whole thing. Yes. I’m literally giving it away. For free. Gratis. And for nothing. You can print it out and read it by going  here.

But I want an actual book to hold in my hands. Can I have one?

You may not want to print out 116 pages of A4. You may prefer a handily bound version that’s like a book. You can do that by ordering a copy from Lulu. It’s £6.49 plus £3.50 P&P – which means this could be mailed to your door for £9.99. Click here.

The format is large softback (6×9), so a bit bigger than a normal novel, but a bit smaller than a regular hardback. It is this size to keep the page numbers, and therefore the costs, down. Long story.
